I was given this book for review through GoodReads First Reads. When I first read the title The Design Cookbook: Recipes for a Stylish Home, I initially thought it was a cookbook for some of the more fancy & unusual dishes. When I read the description and learned otherwise, I became interested to see how they would approach this concept. Each project is presented as a recipe like in a traditional cookbook. There is a picture of the finished project, an 'ingredient' list, tools needed, and I was given this book for review through GoodReads First Reads. There is a picture of the finished project, an 'ingredient' list, tools needed, and step-by-step instructions. I liked the layout, and this was an interesting way to present things. Sadly, this is still a home improvement/project book. Changing the layout and the way things are presented doesn't help this standout for that genre. Changing materials to ingredients isn't a big selling point for me. I do want to try some of these projects when I move, but that's because I thought they looked neat, not because of the way their instructions are laid out. Overall, I think the presentation could have been done a little different to help this stand out as unique and fun. There are quite a few ideas and concepts, which is where Kelly Edwards really shines.

A great book filled with fantastic decorating ideas. This book is great for anyone looking to "spice" up their house or totally renovate! There are great tips about how to decorate, and where to put things. I love how it has great ideas for not only new furniture, but refurbishing old pieces to make them look new! I also love the DIY ideas in this book. I feel like I have a book of my Pinterest ideas laid out in front of me. I especially love the DIY Jar Labels. I also love that there are a lot A great book filled with fantastic decorating ideas. This book is great for anyone looking to "spice" up their house or totally renovate! What a fun book filled with interesting and original home decorating ideas. From traditional to inventive, there is something for everyone. I was inspired to make new and exciting decorating choices including new and unexpected mediums. Some of my favorites are Noa's DYI Space, Kid's Room, Starters and Sweet Touches, Sibylle's DYI Kitchen Cart and so many more. I have read and reread it so many times...it has notes, tabs and markings throughout...if you want a change or just love decorating, What a fun book filled with interesting and original home decorating ideas. It was a quick book to flip through. Unfortunately due to Kindle formatting problems you couldn't do anything else but flip through and look at the photos. It only allowed landscape reading with NO zoom or changing font size. Yep, the book was formatted to make sure the photos were the focus. Unfortunately if you can't read 6 point font that means you can't read the text! There were two decorating ideas I liked. Most were high end immaculate looking ideas for a a not lived in house. A lot of valuable content in a cheaply put together book. I am usually so focused on reading that I don't pay much attention to anything tactile about the physical book. In this case, the flimsy cover and crappy paper made the book noticeably uncomfortable to read. Could have cut the content in half to make the book lighter. Many photos out of focus. The ideas deserved a better medium.

I have the Kindle version, and did have the same trouble with small text as other reviewers, however the photos were beautiful, and I was able to read much of the book. It had a lot of great tips, and instructions for a numberof cool projects.

I first thought this was an actual cookbook but its a design book. It gives lots of ideas to decorate your home, office etc. Great photos. The notes on the photos are very helpful. Tons of great tips. Step by step instructions for projects. Quick read.

I already knew that I'm not exactly stylish, but this book confirmed it. There was little in here that appealed to me.

The pictures in this book were not really my style so I did not get much out of it.
