This DC Essential Graphic Novel Catalog is basically a DC Fan's very trusty handbook. It's a guide for new comers, but also a collection of some DC's best graphic novels. Many are very well know among fans, some not so much, but this is a great addition for a collector or a casual fan. It has information on our favourite DC characters, as well as some of their best comics. Also, there is a short scene is the beginning that was quite entertaining, featuring Black Manta, Aquaman and my all-time favourite, Mera, in which they explain what the DC Essential Graphic Catalog is and what it entails. This isn't necessarily a must-have, but I have no qualms throwing my money at DC for one of these. I want a hard copy for my shelf at home.

More of a reference than thing to read cover to cover. At a guess it's about 20% female character lead books, 50% Batman. Shows their recommended titles for various characters in the DC universe or published by DC. I don't agree with all their Wonder Woman choices. I would skip the New 52 run, for example, but it did give me some new titles to add to my read list for other characters. Also helpful with recommended read orders for all their main superheroes.

I received a free copy through the Goodreads giveaway program. As a novice to the graphic novel genre, this is an invaluable resource. You're provided with just enough information to recognize the different heroes and villains and know what order to read them in.

A good catalog guide for starter comic-book reader. I'm not really well-versed with DC comics but I think the old and original story, albeit it has it's flaws, is still the best rather than these new ones.
