Murder by Plum Pudding by Lee Strauss is set during the Christmas holidays. Ginger and Basil have a house full of guests, family and family friends, at Christmas. It's a rather tense situation when at the end of the Christmas meal one of the guests dies. A quickly paced plot with secrets, lies, red herrings and several suspects for Basil and Ginger to investigate. I was hooked from the first page and quickly finished it in one afternoon. I really enjoy this series by Ms. Strauss and always look Murder by Plum Pudding by Lee Strauss is set during the Christmas holidays. However, she's a bit wistful missing her stepmother and sister back in Boston. When Sally and Louisa show up, Ginger is excited to see them, until they announce they're staying with her! Ginger is planning a dinner party with an American business associate of her father and his wife, the Reed family and friends. Another guest is invited for dinner so the young ladies will have a single gentleman to fight over! The American, Mr. Doyle, may be rude and crass but surely no one would wish him dead? That seems to be the case when the man dies after eating a bite of Christmas pudding. Basil and Dr. Gupta are certain the death was not due to natural causes. Can Ginger and Basil solve the crime before Christmas is over? This story is longer than the Lady Gold Investigates series and shorter than a full-length novel. It's a very satisfactory length but a bit too long to read in one sitting. I love how confident Ginger and Basil are now in their relationship with each other and how easy they share sleuthing duties. His respect for her is admirable. Scout usually provides some comic relief but he isn't in the story much. Boss, my very favorite character, does have a big role to play in this story. Louisa is back and as annoying as ever and we get to finally meet Sally. I can see why Louisa is a pill. I don't understand what Ginger's father saw in Sally. Sally is acting more than snippy, she acts suspicious. There's NO WAY Ginger's stepmother could be a killer, right? Readers of Ginger's Journal may be disappointed that one entry is repeated here but still it was good to meet Sally in the present and see what she is like now her husband is dead. Newcomers include Mr. and Mrs. Doyle from America. He's a loud, crude man- the sort the English hate. He manages to insult Ginger and her guests while his wife is forced to put up with his behavior and apologize. Her brother, Mr. Lester, is also at the dinner party. He's quiet and a bit aloof. Mr. Lester doesn't really respond to Louisa and Felicia's flirtations. Mr. and Mrs. Davenport, friends of the Reeds, seem lonely and sad. They have secrets that could lead to the killer. Mrs. Davenport seems to be elderly, frail and possibly afflicted with dementia. They're a rather sad reminder that the book is set post-WWI. I figured out which person was the killer right away and the murder weapon is equally obvious. Still, this is a fun mystery and fans of the series will enjoy it. Newcomers could start here if they wanted but I wouldn't recommend it.

Ridiculously fun!!! Not sure why she puts up with rude relatives, but Ginger does it with grace and a flare for fashion. But of course, there is always a murder to solve!!! Love these silly books!

First introduction to this author, a cute mystery time piece story. I did feel a little lost with some of the characters (for ex. Ginger is married to Basil and his family does not like her much, I want to know the history there) although not necessary to read this story as it could be a stand alone. Liked it enough to pick up the first book in the series

Short Christmas time mystery is just what I need this time of year. I've been far too busy to delve into a book but having a collection of short seasonal mysteries is great. I don't believe I have read others by this author, and I'm not really sure I would make the effort to find more, but it was a fun holiday romp

Clever! Novella of Christmas, 1925, at Hartigan House . Ginger's stepmother and half sister arrive, unannounced, from Boston, USA, to spend Christmas. Suspicious death occurs as they are eating plum pudding! Basil and Ginger investigate --- entertaining plot!

The novella was a quick, enjoyable read. Some of the characters are wearing a bit thIn but I’ll be happy to see more of Boss, Scout, and Pippens.

Fun story, set around the holidays. Felt a little lost since this was part of the Six Merry Little Murders bundle and I didn't know it was 12th in the series, but it was still a fun read.

Murder by Plum Pudding is a gorgeous Christmassy novella, filled with murder, intrigue, mystery, red herrings and huge dollops of Christmas spirit. Oh and a fabulous dose of 1920s era style. As a fan of Ginger Gold series, I adored all the character development and the nods to the past in Ginger’s diary entries (such a beautiful Christmas Eve entry, very touching) - but this novella would also be hugely entertaining to a new reader. I have enjoyed all the Ginger Gold mysteries. This one takes place in Ginger's home at her dinner party. The story moves along quickly and has a quirky bunch of suspects. It kept me reading till the murderer was caught! Strauss writes a lovely period mystery. I enjoy the details that she peppers her story with. It makes the story much more interesting. I received this as an ARC and wished to leave a review.

But aside from her invited guests, her American step-mother and her half-sister Louisa show up unexpectedly as well. A couple, the Doyles, also from America, who said they knew her father well asked if they could stay with Ginger since they would be visiting London and she couldn't refuse. Then when she and her family volunteer at the shelter Christmas Eve to feed the homeless and less fortunate, she meets a volunteer who just happens to be the brother of the of Mrs. Doyle also gets invited to Christmas Dinner to see his sister he hadn't seen since she moved to America with her husband. Added to the fun we have Ginger and Basil's adopted son Scout and Ginger's ever faithful dog Boss. When at dinner Mr. Doyle falls flat on his face in the pudding and is pronounced dead thought to have choked until the autopsy shows it was murder, things start to spin with lots of twists, turns, red-herrings, secrets and confessions and we are on our way to a really good whodunit and why. I received and ARC from the author but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.

As well as a great whodunnit it gives insight into the times. I thoroughly enjoyed this quick read.

I loved this story! It includes all my favorite characters from the Ginger Gold Series and includes her stepmother and sister who we rarely see. The murder was clever as it was hard to figure out how a murder could be committed at the Christmas dinner table with everyone in plain sight. It was interesting to find out who did it and how it was done. Boss played a key role in providing a clue.
